What is Shelly Gen3?

Shelly Gen3 is the third generation of smart relays and plugs from Shelly. They offer improved Wi-Fi stability, built-in Bluetooth and full native support for Home Assistant with no extra configuration needed.

The Gen3 range includes:

  • Shelly 1PM Gen3 — single-channel relay with power metering
  • Shelly 2PM Gen3 — dual-channel relay, ideal for blinds and shutters
  • Shelly 1PM Mini Gen3 — ultra-compact relay for switch boxes
  • Shelly Plug S MTR Gen3 — smart plug with consumption metering

Why we recommend them: Shelly Gen3 devices support native Home Assistant integration via the Shelly integration — no MQTT or custom firmware required.

Installation

Installation is done inside the switch box or distribution panel. Gen3 devices are powered by the same phase they control:

  • Connect Phase (L) to the input and the output to the load
  • Neutral (N) is required for most models
  • Use at least 1.5mm² cable for loads up to 16A

Wi-Fi Setup

After installation, the Shelly broadcasts its own Wi-Fi hotspot. Connect to it and open 192.168.33.1 in your browser to access the web interface. From there configure your home Wi-Fi network.

Home Assistant Integration

Home Assistant automatically discovers Shelly devices on the same network. Go to Settings → Integrations, search for "Shelly" and add the device.

If it doesn't appear automatically, add it manually using its IP address from the same menu.
